INTRODUCTION:
Our department is located in Zonguldak, on the Black Sea coast of Northwestern Anatolia and the center of the basin where Turkey's only coking coal deposits are located. Mining engineering education in Zonguldak dates back to 1924. Immediately after the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, Zonguldak High School of Mining Engineering was opened to meet the mining engineer needs of our country and this school continued its activities under different names until 1961.
Approximately 15 years later, in 1975, Zonguldak State Academy of Engineering and Architecture was opened and engineering education resumed in Mining and Mechanical Engineering departments. As a result of the restructuring in higher education in 1982, these departments were affiliated to Hacettepe University under the roof of Zonguldak Engineering Faculty.
In 1992, Zonguldak Karaelmas University was established, the name of our university was changed to Bülent Ecevit University in 2012 and Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University in 2018. Our department still continues its education and training activities within the Faculty of Engineering of our University.
In the development process of our department, accreditation with national and international validity has been targeted. In this context, the Mining Engineering Undergraduate Program, which was evaluated for the first time by MÜDEK Engineering Education Programs Accreditation Board, was granted accreditation and EUR-ACE label between September 30, 2009 and September 30, 2014.
